Earthbound in Boulder, CO: A Guide to Our Favorite Places
Kicking off our "Earthbound in Your City" series is Kathleen, the manager of our historic Pearl Street location in Boulder, Colorado. Kathleen gives us her take on some of Boulder's best offerings, including restaurants, music spots, hiking trails and more. Boulder sounds like an awesome town and we can't wait to visit and check out all of Kathleen's recommendations!
Q: Is there any cuisine your city is known for? Where's the best place to get it?
A: Boulder is one of the centers of the Green Movement in the nation, so healthy, gluten free, and locally grown food is huge here. It's super easy to be health conscious here and the food is still amazingly yummy. I recommend getting some crazy pancakes at Snooze for breakfast, grabbing a quick but still very filling lunch at Half Fast Subs, and having literally anything at Salt for dinner. Besides that we are also known for our breweries. They are everywhere, but hitting up Boulder Beer or Left Hand Brewing Company for a brewery tour and sampling is a must.
Q: What's the music scene like? Where do you go to catch a concert or go dancing?
A: Two words: RED ROCKS! Having the most beautiful (and natural) amphitheatre so close by means that we have a very active and diverse music scene. Once you go to Red Rocks, no other venue will ever compare. You can also catch tons of good shows at the Fox Theatre on the hill, as well as the Boulder Theater if you're looking for something in town.
Q: What's something fun to do with children in your town?
A: There are fountains and playgrounds on Pearl Street that are always very active with playing children. Boulder Creek is a great place to have a picnic and play in the creek when the Colorado heat is getting intense. There's also tons of hiking; Sanitas Valley Trail is excellent for children.
Q: What museums, theatres, galleries or other cultural activities do you recommend?
A: Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art always has excellent exhibits and events that are tons of fun to attend. It's also great to take a tour of the University of Colorado Boulder campus. Be sure to hit up the CU Museum of Natural History, and the Fiske Planetarium as well. Hiking is a way of life here, so hiking the Flatirons is a must. Take a hike in the morning and then make it down to Pearl Street for happy hour and check out the street performers in the afternoon.
Q: Where's the best place to be after midnight in your city?
A: Pearl Street. If you are looking for a nice relaxing night with your friends, we recommend Catacombs or the Sundown Saloon, but if you want to go dancing there's always Walrus or Absinthe House. There are also plenty of restaurants and breweries that stay open late and you can relax on their rooftops.
Q: What's the best time of year to visit? Why?
A: From May until October, the weather is wonderful here. Although July and August can reach over 100°F during the day, the Colorado night time weather is fantastic.
Q: What's one unique thing about your city that a visitor absolutely should not miss?
A: Besides CU's beautiful campus and the Flatirons that are so breath-taking and the hiking that goes along with that, you should always check out the shopping on Pearl Street and come say hey to us here at Earthbound!
